Potluri Vara Prasad (born 8 September 1970), is an Indian politician, businessman and entrepreneur. He  holds the position of Executive Chairman & Managing Director at PVP Ventures Ltd. and Managing Director & Executive Director at Picturehouse Media Ltd.[3][4][5]

Early life edit

Potluri Prasad was born in  Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, to Potluri Raghavendra Rao and P Manga Taradevi. He has two siblings. He attended NSM Public School in Vijayawada, followed by Mechanical Engineering from Nagarjuna University.[6] In 1994, he completed a Master’s degree at a university in Australia, and in 1995 arrived in the United States.[7]

Career edit

In 1996, he founded Procon, an IT services company, later acquired by RCM Technologies in 1998.[8] In 2000, he started Albion Orion Company, which merged with SSI.[9] in a significant cross-border transaction valued at $63.65 million.[10]

In 2001, Prasad co-founded Irevna, a company in knowledge process outsourcing services, acquired by CRISIL in 2005.[11][12] In 2006, he established PVP Ventures a publicly traded corporation involved in media and entertainment financing.[13] Under Prasad's leadership, PVP Ventures entered film production with PVP Cinema and also secured the Hyderabad Hotshots[14] franchise in the Indian Badminton League,[15][16][17] participating in the inaugural season in 2013.[18]

Prasad is also engaged in philanthropy, serving as the chief patron of the Prasad V. Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology[19][20][21] and a patron at the L. V. Prasad Eye Institute.[22] Presently, he maintains strategic investments in Maven Corp,[23][24] Karvy Consultants,[25] and is a founding investor of CBay Systems.[26][27]

Political career edit

In 2019, Potluri Prasad joined the YSR Congress Party prior to the elections. He received confirmation from the YCP leadership for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha ticket. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy extended a warm welcome to him as a new member of the party.[28] However, in the election, Prasad was defeated by Telugu Desam candidate Kesineni Srinivas by a margin of 8,720 votes.[29][30]
