It was formed on December 29, 2016. by former President of the Maldives Abdulla Yameen and the former Islamic Minister Ahmed Ziyad.[1]

This channel is only shows Religious programs and series like Archived Religious Lectures, Islaamee Dhiri Ulhun, Muhammad Rasool Allah, Salahuddin Ayyoubi, etc.

Munnaaru TV along with Yes TV in the assocation with Ministry of Education was also show "Telikilaas" (Tele-Class) series during COVID-19 Lockdown in 2020, The Ministry of Education has won UNESCO Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation for their online learning "Telekilaas" series. [2]

The Channel will be On-Air daily at 4pm to 12am, on Fridays at 11am to 12am and on specific days like Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha will be on air at 6:30am to 12am. In 12am, a special Radio transmission of Dheenuge Adu, launced alongside with Munnaaru TV will be on.[citation needed]
