Mornington, Queensland

Mornington is a suburb of the town of Mount Isa in the City of Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2016 census Mornington had a population of 1,764 people.[1]

Geography edit

The Leichhardt River flows north-south through the town of Mount Isa, dividing the suburbs of the town into "mineside" (west of the Leichhardt River) and "townside" (east of the Leichhardt River).[3][4] Mornington is a "townside" suburb.[5]

History edit

Mornington was named on 1 September 1973 by the Queensland Place Names Board. Originally a locality, it became a suburb on 16 March 2001.[2]

In the 2011 census, Mornington had a population of 1,919 people.[6]

In the 2016 census, Mornington had a population of 1,764 people.[1]

Mount Isa Base Hospital is a public hospital at 30 Camooweal Street (20°43′51″S 139°29′39″E / 20.7307°S 139.4941°E / -20.7307; 139.4941 (public hospital)).[9] It includes the Centre for Rural and Remote Health operated by James Cook University.[10][11]
