Please either lower the protection level to TE or modify the template as follows:

<span class="plainlinks">[{{canonicalurl:User:{{{1|Example}}}}} {{{2|User:{{{1|Example}}}}}}]</span><noinclude>
<!-- This does not handle the link colours correctly. Does anybody know how to override default external link colours? -->

should be replaced with:

{{Plainlinks|url={{canonicalurl:User:{{{1|Example}}}}}|name={{{label1|User:{{{1|Example}}}}}}}}{{#ifeq:{{{2|}}}|||&#32;& {{Plainlinks|url={{canonicalurl:User:{{{2|Example}}}}}|name={{{label2|User:{{{2|Example}}}}}}}}}}{{#ifeq:{{{3|}}}|||&#32;& {{Plainlinks|url={{canonicalurl:User:{{{3|Example}}}}}|name={{{label3|User:{{{3|Example}}}}}}}}}}{{#ifeq:{{{4|}}}|||&#32;& {{Plainlinks|url={{canonicalurl:User:{{{4|Example}}}}}|name={{{label4|User:{{{4|Example}}}}}}}}}}{{#ifeq:{{{5|}}}|||&#32;& {{Plainlinks|url={{canonicalurl:User:{{{5|Example}}}}}|name={{{label5|User:{{{5|Example}}}}}}}}}}<noinclude>

As seen in the sandbox and displayed on the testcases page, also removing the highlighted line in the first snippit as that comment is no longer needed. Technical 13 (talk) 17:08, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pings being sent by noping

edit

Noping currently appears to be broken. After testing here, I got a notification saying, "your mention of Example user was sent". This follows the recent discussion at WT:Notifications#Checkuser and admin questions. Burninthruthesky (talk) 12:54, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I reverted Jc86035's edit. I confirmed that the modification caused the template to ping users on testwiki. — JJMC89(T·C) 01:33, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@JJMC89: Testing {{noping2}}, which I also modified: Example (talk · contribs). I assume this is because generating a Lua title object causes the user to be pinged. Jc86035 (talk) Use {{re|Jc86035}}

I've reverted my edit on {{noping2}} as well, since for some reason #ifexist also triggers a notification. Is this a bug or a feature? Jc86035 (talk) Use {{re|Jc86035}}

Tooltip is missing

edit

Not sure if that's something worth fixing, but figured I may as well point it out. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 05:39, 21 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 30 July 2020

edit

Please replace the following line (the very first line) at Module:No ping:

-- This module implements {{noping}}.

with this line:

-- This module implements {{no ping}}.

This is simply to update/correct the name of the template being implemented. Jdaloner (talk) 09:07, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Adding appropriate use section

edit

I recently came across an instance in which I thought this template was used inappropriately, and it occurs to me that the documentation here ought to offer some guidance on when it is/isn't appropriate to use this. Here's what I'd propose for that:

As transparency is a core value of Wikipedia, please be cautious when using this template. It is fine to use it to avoid bothering an editor about something in which there is no reasonable expectation they would be interested. On the other hand, using it when criticizing another editor will often be perceived negatively, as not notifying them denies them the chance to respond.

That wording doesn't establish any firm rules, but hopefully still gets across that {{no ping|Example}} is an idiot! isn't a great idea. Does that jive with others' understanding of best practice? I'll add it if so. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:53, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
