Born on June 12, 1950, Michel Reveyrand de Menthon is the illegitimate son of François de Menthon and Marguerite Reveyrand, a member of the French Resistance in Lyon.[1] He is thus the half-brother of senior civil servant Jean de Menthon.[2]

Career

From 1987 to 1988, Michel Reveyrand-de Menthon served as the deputy director of the budget at the Ministry of Cooperation, then from 1989 to 1990, as the head of the financial aid department, before becoming a technical advisor from 1990 to 1991. He then joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the same role from 1991 to 1992. From 1992 to 1994, he worked at the Ministry of Economy and Finance as a civil administrator at the Treasury Department.

In 1994, he moved to the private sector, where he became the deputy director of structured financing at Crédit Local de France-Dexia Group, and in 1996, he became the regional director for Upper Normandy. In 1998, he returned to the State Secretariat for Cooperation and then to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the head of the geographic coordination service. In 2000, he joined the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industry, where he became the financial advisor for Africa at the Treasury Department, covering Central and Eastern Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, and the Indian Ocean.

In 2006, he was appointed French Ambassador to Mali, and from 2011 to 2013, he served as Ambassador to Chad.[3]

Personal Life

He is the husband of former Minister of Health Marisol Touraine.[4]
