Bug report: Broken URL due to colon parsed as HTML escape character edit

The link to the correct page is broken because the colon is changed to : by the PAGENAME token, and then dropped if you click on the link. (example for Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:New_York_City_Police_Department; the generated URL is https//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:New_York_City_Police_Department instead of the correct https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:New_York_City_Police_Department). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 13:59, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

@LaundryPizza03: can you provide a little bit more help here? Put the step-by-step directions that you are doing, and on any step where the result you get is not what you expect put the result you got, and the result you expected. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 15:54, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don't see anything else that I haven't explained. Just click on the redlink, then try to create the page while logged into a non-admin account. The broken link in the notice should be the one that follows "If you are trying to view..." What else do you not understand? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 16:18, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux: Is the above summary clearer to you? If you have nay other questions, please ping back if you reply. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 23:49, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@LaundryPizza03 I think it is enough to start on, I'm not sure this is a "mediawiki" bug, could just be a problem in our template. More testing needed on that front. — xaosflux Talk 00:00, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@LaundryPizza03: I have wrapped {{PAGENAME}} in {{#titleparts:}} per mw:Help:Magic words#Page names.[1] That fixed it for me (tested in an alternative non-admin account). PrimeHunter (talk) 17:24, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
