Please change this to "until removed". The current "no expiry set", while accurate, does not make it clear to blocked editors that the block can be removed on appeal. It basically is the definition of "indefinite" but easier for most users to understand. Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis 21:38, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

The default for this is "infinite" - I'm not 100% sure where this is being displayed right now - can you point to the location of the display @Awesome Aasim - need to make sure any changes will still be grammatically correct. — xaosflux Talk 19:32, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux It is primarily used in MediaWiki:Blockedtext and Special:BlockList. It will still make grammatical sense. "This block has been set to expire: until removed" does not look too terribly awkward. On the other hand, "No expiry set" has the same equivalence as "indefinite" but people may mistake this for "infinite", despite indefinite and infinite not meaning the exact same thing. "Until removed" has the equivalence of "indefinite" but it makes clear that the block can be removed on appeal. Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis 21:20, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yea, I don't like that. "Set to expire: until removed" sounds bad. The original for this was "infinite" but I'd be ok with "indefinite". "Until removed" suggests can suggest that it will be removed. "unless removed" is better - but doesn't really fit those other blocks well....— xaosflux Talk 21:29, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
In no ways does until removed imply that the block will be removed at some point. Thinking about the reasons people may be indefinitely blocked (vandalism, edit warring, and disruptive edits) the "until removed" means "you can appeal, but it does not guarantee that the block will be removed". Because per our blocking policy we remove blocks that are determined to be unmerited or no longer merited. That only happens after a block appeal confirms that indeed there is no present risk of disruption. Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis 21:32, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Not done treat this as now at step 3 of WP:BRD for the column "expires" in Special:BlockList this is populated with time values - the current value is fine in my opinion, as would be the default value (infinite) - but "until removed" isn't even close to a time value. Feel free to continue discussing below, if a consensus emerges for your idea please reactivate the edit request. — xaosflux Talk 00:51, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux I'll go ask in the technical section of the village pump as "no expiry set" has the wrong phrasing. Also pages in MW namespace don't seem to get as much attention. Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis 02:17, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please change to "indefinite". The text "no expiry set" is no longer displayed because of how {{blocked text}} displays on English Wikipedia, compared to the default message. Since it is no longer displays, there is little point in keeping this at "no expiry set", and should be changed to "indefinite" for Special:BlockList. Awesome Aasim 20:36, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done: You made practically the same request 2 and a half years ago. Izno (talk) 23:08, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
