Luke Hellier is an American politician who became mayor of Lakeville, Minnesota since 2023. Before becoming mayor, he was a member of the Lakeville City Council from 2017 to 2023.[1]

Early life
editHellier graduated from Lakeville High School in 2003. He then attended Saint John's University, graduating in 2007. During his time in college, he was a conservative leader on campus, and named by the Human Events newspaper as one of the top 10 campus conservative activists.[2]
After college, Hellier was the editor a blog called Minnesota Democrats Exposed. While leading the publication, he was named by the Minnesota Network for Progressive Actions as one of the "10 Worst Political Persons in Minnesota".[3] He stepped down after Republicans won a majority in both the Minnesota House of Representatives and Minnesota Senate after the 2010 elections.[4]
Political career
editEarly in his career, Hellier worked for Michele Bachmann, Erik Paulsen, and the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus. In 2014, he joined Public Affairs Co., a public relations firm based in Minnesota.[5]
In 2016, Hellier announced his run for Lakeville City Council.[6] He was the leading vote-getter in the election that November. He was re-elected in 2020.[7]
In 2022, Lakeville mayor Doug Anderson announced his retirement. Hellier filed to run for the seat, and was elected without opposition.[8] He took office on January 3, 2023.
Personal life
