Laxman Lucky Bisht, also known as Lucky Bisht,[7] is a former NSG commando and intelligence operative.[8] He served as a personal bodyguard to politicians such as L. K. Advani, Chandrababu Naidu, Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.[8][9] In 2009, Bisht earned the title of India's Best NSG Commando.[10][11][12] In 2011, he faced allegations in connection with the twin murders of Raju Pargai and Amit Arya and was subsequently jailed. He was acquitted of all charges in 2018 due to insufficient evidence.[9] Following this, he left the special forces to pursue a career in the Hindi film industry.[9][8]

Early life and military career edit

Bisht was born in Gangolihat, Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand. His grandfather died in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.[13][14] He completed his early education at Kendriya Vidhyalaya No. 5, Mansarovar, Jaipur,[15] and joined the special forces at the age of 16 in 2003.[16] He underwent two and a half years of training in espionage and commando tactics in Israel.[17]

Bisht served as the security officer for Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief minister of Gujarat.[18] In 2022, he was interviewed by Hussain Zaidi about his life,[19] career and experiences as an intelligence operative for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).[20][21] Bisht was part of the security detail for US President Barack Obama[22] during his visit to India on 8 November 2010.[23] He has worked with various government security agencies, including the National Security Guard, Indian Army, Research and Analysis Wing, Special Forces and Assam Rifles, leading missions across multiple countries.[24][25][26][27]

Indian Film Industry edit

Bisht made his entry into the Indian film industry as a writer in 2019.[28][29][30] A book on his life, titled R.A.W. Hitman: The Real Story of Agent Lima,[31][32] was published by Simon & Schuster on 4 July 2023 in the United States[33] and on 6 July 2023 in India.[34][35] Authored by Hussain Zaidi,[36][37][38] the book became a bestseller within three weeks.[39][40][41] Its foreword was penned by Neeraj Kumar, former Delhi Police Chief.[42][10][43][44][45] This publication is the second book by Simon & Schuster on an Indian individual,[46][47] following Sachin Tendulkar.[48]

Controversy edit

Bisht faced accusations for the assassination of Raju Pargai and Amit Arya.[49][50] On 5 September 2011, the Uttarakhand Police charged him with a double murder charge.[51][52] He spent over three years in jail, being transferred to 11 different facilities during this period.[2] He was released on 11 March 2015.[53][54] Ultimately, the Nainital district court acquitted him on 6 March 2018 due to a lack of evidence.[55][56] Bisht rejoined the Special Forces in 2018 and retired in 2019 before venturing into Bollywood later that year.[57][58]
