Rentarō

edit
Rentarō Aijō (愛城 恋太郎, Aijō Rentarō)
Voiced by: Wataru Katoh[1] (Japanese); Travis Mullenix[2] (English)
Rentarō has fallen in love and been rejected one hundred times prior to the beginning of the story, thus causing him to strive to better himself each time. Due to an error by a god of love, by the end of his high school life, Rentarō is destined to have 100 soulmates. When Rentarō makes eye contact with one of his girlfriends for the first time, a shock-like feeling overcomes him and his new girlfriend. Rentarō genuinely loves each and every new girlfriend he meets, even completely passing a lie detector test when questioned about the legitimacy of his feelings. In chapter 146, Rentarō makes it clear that he would marry all of his girlfriends to his then twenty-five girlfriends, with all agreeing to share him and continue to be a part of the "Rentarō Family." He often goes out of his way, sometimes to extremes, to keep them all happy. He also detests doing lewd things to his girlfriends unless absolutely necessary, but always has extreme contingency plans to minimize the nature of the situation.

Hakari is from a wealthy family and likes to present a prim and proper appearance, but is rather physical in her affection and can sometimes be perverted. Hakari's mother initially disapproved of her relationship with Rentarō, before seeing how true his feelings are (becoming a girlfriend herself). She occasionally cooperates with her mother to manipulate Rentarō and his girlfriends into doing perverted actions.

Sara Ragsdale[4](English)

Class 1–4
Rentarō's third girlfriend and one of his classmates in class 1–4. Shy to the point of muteness, Shizuka was constantly bullied by her fellow students and abused by her mother before meeting Rentarō. She is a bookworm who initially could only communicate through passages from her favorite book by pointing at them when trying to respond to someone. Rentarō develops a speaking app for her so she can freely communicate by digitally reciting the lines she touches, as well as a word bank. She loves fantasy romance books in particular, but is unable to swim.

This changes after going on a date with him where she accepts her feelings, and stops him from burning the photos they took on it.
5
Kusuri Yakuzen (薬膳 楠莉, Yakuzen Kusuri) Ayaka Asai[3] (Japanese)
Lindsay Sheppard[6](English)
High School - 3rd year Rentarō's fifth girlfriend. A third-year high school student, Kusuri is the president of the Chemistry club at Rentarō's high school, and specialises in creating drugs that have strange effects when consumed. While she is technically 18 years old, she spends much of her time in an eight-year-old's body due to a drug that was supposed to make her immortal.[a] She also has a neutralization drug that can revert most of her drug's effects, this includes the failed immortal drug which can only be temporarily negated. She acts like her general appearance, wears diapers, talks in the third-person, and ends her sentences with nanoda (なのだ).
6
Hahari Hanazono (花園 羽々里, Hanazono Hahari) Sumire Uesaka[7] (Japanese)
Corey Pettit[8](English)
Administrator
Rentarō's sixth girlfriend and Hakari's mother. She gave birth to Hakari when she was thirteen, due to having fallen in love with a terminally ill fellow student. Knowing that he did not have long to live, she had herself artificially inseminated with his sperm so that they could be a family before he died. Hahari initially disapproved of Hakari's relationship with Rentarō, but hanged her mind when she fell in love with Rentarō herself. She later bought his school and became the new chairwoman to stay close to him. She adores cute things, is affectionate to Rentarō and his girlfriends (as a mother figure), and shares some of her daughter's perverted tendencies.
7
Kurumi Haraga (原賀 胡桃, Haraga Kurumi) Amane Shindō[9] (Japanese) Middle School - 3rd year Rentarō's seventh girlfriend. Kurumi is a third-year middle-schooler with a very high metabolism, which causes her to get hungry very easily. She constantly wears headphones and has her hood up in order to block out as much food-related talk as possible due to her cravings when hearing food-like words. Kurumi is shown to have two personalities which depend on how hungry she is. When full she is very kind and sweet-natured, but when hungry she gets short-tempered and abrupt. Unfortunately, the latter personality usually is dominant due to her near-constant hunger.
8
Mei Meido (銘戸 芽衣, Meido Mei) Suzuko Mimori (Japanese)
None[b]
Rentarō's eighth girlfriend. Mei is one of the Hanazono family's maids, having been found by Hahari after she was abused and abandoned by her biological parents. She is exceptionally loyal to Hahari and will carry out any request made by her without question. A running gag has Mei becoming suicidal if she fails to fulfill the task, often resulting in Hahari having to rescind the order to stop her. While Mei usually keeps her eyes closed which hide her rainbow colored irises, this does not stop her from driving or piloting a helicopter.
9
Iku Sutō (須藤 育, Sutō Iku) Rie Takahashi[9] (Japanese) High School - 1st year
Class 1–3
Rentarō's ninth girlfriend, in the same year as him (class 1–3). Iku is the last remaining member of the school's baseball team, as the other members decided to study baseball in America. She is masochistic, finding pleasure in overworking herself to exhaustion and otherwise being mildly hurt. A bonus story in the fifth volume reveals that her masochism began when she developed a love of baseball at a young age. Initially, she found practicing too hard and painful, but after an encouraging pep talk from her older brother, she decided to keep at it. However, because she had been told to keep trying even if it hurt, she came to consider pain a good thing.
10
Mimimi Utsukushisugi (美杉 美々美, Utsukushisugi Mimimi) Lynn[9] (Japanese) High School - 2nd year Rentarō's tenth girlfriend and a second year at his school. While Mimimi is a girl who is obsessed with beauty, she is aware that beauty cannot simply be bought. As she considers her inner beauty just as important, she works hard by earning her own money, doing facial regimens, and teaching herself elocution. She initially considers Nano to be a rival as she beat Mimimi in their junior high school beauty contest and then snubbed her. After Nano apologises for her past the two become friends and maintain a friendly rivalry.
11
Meme Kakure (華暮 愛々, Kakure Meme) Kanon Takao[9] (Japanese) High School - 1st year
Class 1–4
Rentarō's eleventh girlfriend and another of his classmates from class 1–4. Meme is extremely shy and goes out of her way to be a "background character." Her most prominent physical characteristic is her bangs that constantly cover her eyes due to her insecurities. Meme knits small plushies as a hobby, which she uses as a distraction to slip away from view when she gets flustered. She eventually becomes more comfortable around Rentaro's other girlfriends and teaches them how to knit.
12
Chiyo Īn (伊院 知与, Īn Chiyo) Middle School - 1st year Rentarō's twelfth girlfriend and his junior high school-aged cousin. Chiyo has extreme tidiness tendencies, which results in her getting so frustrated when anything is disorganized or sloppy that she has to intervene and correct them. Although she is the "class president" of her class, she secretly dislikes the high expectations they put on her. Meme is vulnerable to anxiety when she loses her glasses which cause her to become a crying mess. While Rentarō had his reservations about dating his cousin, he relented after witnessing her honest and pure confession.[c]
13
Nadeshiko Yamato (大和 撫子, Yamato Nadeshiko)
Teacher
Rentarō's thirteenth girlfriend. Nadeshiko (who calls herself Nadī-sensei) transfers to his school where she becomes the new Japanese teacher. She initially claims to be American until it is later revealed that she is a pure-blooded Japanese Ameriboo. When she was a child, her parents forced her to learn and uphold the behavior of a proper Japanese lady. She later rebelled after discovering and watching an American movie showing the freedom American children were allowed compared to her own upbringing. Her parents disowned her when she began modelling her entire life around American "freedom".
14
Yamame Yasashiki (優敷 山女, Yasashiki Yamame) High School - 1st year
Class 1–3
Rentarō's fourteenth girlfriend and Iku's classmate from class 1–3. Yamame is bigger and taller than Rentarō's other girlfriends, but is described by Rentarō as a gentle soul who loves nature. As a member of the school's gardening club she is overly caring to all forms of wildlife (including weeds). She used to dislike her ample body when she was younger but became proud of it since she could protect and help out nature.[d] After witnessing a wild fire she developed pyrophobia as fires kill plants and animals. After a fire in the school's greenhouse, she confessed her feelings to Rentarō as it was the first time someone had ever protected her.
15
Momiji Momi (茂見 紅葉, Momi Momiji) Middle School - 3rd year Rentarō's fifteenth girlfriend. Momiji is Kurumi's classmate and a skilled masseuse who puts her "clients" (other students) into a state of extreme bliss. Although she states that she enjoys the "softness" of a woman's body, she falls in love with Rentarō after finding his unique body a perfect tool to practice on. Her dream is to become a popular masseuse and personally massage gravure models.
16
Yaku Yakuzen (薬膳 ヤク, Yakuzen Yaku)
None[b]
Rentarō's sixteenth girlfriend and Kusuri's grandmother. While she is technically eighty-nine years old, she also has the appearance of an eight-year-old girl due to a prototype of Kusuri's immortality drug.[e] Even though she is shown to be technologically illiterate, Yaku's age is shown through her knowledge and mature womanly charm. She met her husband in a warzone when she was a medic but has since been widowed. She also shares a variation of her granddaughter's verbal tic, ending her sentences with "nanoja (なのじゃ)" (which is a more antiquated version).
17
Kishika Torotoro (土呂瀞 騎士華, Torotoro Kishika) High School - 3rd year Rentarō's seventeenth girlfriend. Kishika is Kusuri's classmate and captain of the school's kendo team. She has five siblings, all of whom she looks after by herself due to her parents' absence. When anyone attempts to touch her, she becomes extremely reactive and intimidating. This hides her secret desire to be pampered, spoiled, and doted on. She becomes Rentarō's girlfriend after he discovers her secret, but when pampering her is surprised to find that she is also an adult baby. Kishika is later shown to be aware of her fetish and is extremely embarrassed about it.
18
Āshī Kedarui (毛樽井 亜愛子衣, Kedarui Āshī) High School - 1st year
Class 1–1
Rentarō's eighteenth girlfriend and from class 1-1 in the same high school. Āshī dresses and speaks like a gyaru, and a personality self-described as "low-blood pressure”. This causes her to have a constantly relaxed expression, even when stating that she is motivated or excited. After meeting Rentarō and going to a flea market to sell her unused cute things, she became inspired to one day run a store that sells cute things and hopes Rentarō will help support her new dream. She prefers Rentarō to call her Āko.
19
Uto Nakaji (中二 詩人, Nakaji Uto) Middle School - 2nd year Rentarō's nineteenth girlfriend. Uto is a Chūnibyō second-year middle school student who identifies as a wandering bard like Snufkin. She dresses up in appropriate green clothing and plays an ocarina, albeit very poorly. Uto tends to talk in a poetic, roundabout fashion or using the Socratic method.
20
Mai Meido (女井戸 妹, Meido Mai)
None[b]
Rentarō's twentieth girlfriend. Mai is the granddaughter of the previous head maid of the Hanazono household. She chose to become a maid herself after meeting Mei, whom she later idolizes as a self-proclaimed little sister.[f] As she is highly protective of Mei, she initially despises Rentarō for dating her. Mai ends up falling in love with him after she fell and he caught her, making eye contact in the process. She often spaces out when thinking about Mei and later Rentarō which causes her to be clumsy at inopportune times.
21
Momoha Bon'nōji (盆能寺 百八, Bon'nōji Momoha)
Teacher
Rentarō's twenty-first girlfriend. Momoha is a 27-year-old Social Studies teacher at Rentarō's school who teaches second-year students with an emphasis on teaching ethics. Unfortunately, she ironically tends to squander her money on gambling and alcohol which causes her to become homeless. She later becomes the advisor of the Gardening Club after taking up residence in a tent by Yamame's garden. Momoha is also shown to have a generous side as she regularly uses her own money to supply the Gardening Club with tools.
22
Rin Baio (灰尾 凛, Baio Rin) Middle School - 2nd year Rentarō's twenty-second girlfriend and Uto's classmate. Rin is a second-year middle school student who practices the violin as both of her parents are also violinists. After accidently watching a quick scene from Resident Evil as a child, she secretly derives pleasure from any sort of depiction of violence. Rentarō allows Rin to express her desires, and she tends to exclaim "violen-suwa" when aroused.[g]
23
Sū Hifumi (一二三 数, Hifumi Sū) High School - 1st year
Class 1–1
Rentarō's twenty-third girlfriend and Āshī's classmate. Suu adores numbers so much that she flat-out states that she is romantically in love with them. She dislikes most other things, and ignores Rentarō's initial conversations with her because he is not a number. Suu later grows fond of Rentarō and asks to be his girlfriend after he postures himself to resemble numbers.
24
Eira Kaho (火保 エイラ, Kaho Eira) College - 2nd year Rentarō's twenty-fourth girlfriend. Eira is a half-Brazilian second-year college student at Ohananomitsu University. Her father is a Capoeira instructor and she is an active practitioner. She has an unusual habit of kicking things, and a fear of objects or phenomena that she "cannot kick". This is either due to them being physically unable to be kicked (like sneezes or emotions) or things that would be socially unacceptable to kick (like babies or cats).
25
Tama Nekonari (猫成 珠, Nekonari Tama)
None[b]
Rentarō's twenty-fifth girlfriend. Tama is a 21-year-old who grew weary of her office job and decided to reject her humanity. She dresses and acts like a cat and is "adopted" by Rentarō who pampers her. She eventually realizes that as long as he dates her then she has a reason to work as she can come home to be with him afterwards.
26
Himeka Saiki (才奇 姫歌, Saiki Himeka) High School - 1st year Rentarō's twenty-sixth girlfriend. Himeka is a transfer student (first-year) and is a popular idol who goes by the stage name "Kiki." While she is a prodigious singer, she has an interest in doing abnormal things for mundane tasks and situations in order to attract more attention to herself. Himeka initially rejects Rentarō due to perceiving him as "normal", but changes her mind after hearing that he had 25 girlfriends at that time.
27
Matsuri Dei (出井 祭李, Dei Matsuri) Middle School - 1st year Rentarō's twenty-seventh girlfriend, and Chiyo's classmate. Matsuri is a first-year middle school student who is half English through her mother. She speaks with a Tokyo Shitamachi dialect, loves working at Matsuri festivals, and constantly dresses in a Gothic Lolita style. When she first meets Rentarō while making yakisoba with her grandparents she is initially upset at the thought of him attending festivals only as a means to scoring girls. Matsuri falls in love with Rentarō and asks to become a girlfriend when he proves that he genuinely enjoys the experience.
28
Shīna Usami (宇佐美 椎奈, Usami Shīna) High School - 2nd year Rentarō's twenty-eighth girlfriend. Shīna is a second-year high school student who has severe autophobia and cannot do things when she is alone. This effects the things she enjoys as while she likes group activities like team sports, she hates doing solo activities like figure skating. Shīna is first introduced during a gag chapter where she integrates herself into Rentarō's (confused) girlfriend's by showing pictures of him.[h] Her reasoning was that she saw all of them together and wanted to be a part of it.
29
Meru Zetsubōda (雪房田 夢留, Zetsubōda Meru) Rentarō's twenty-ninth girlfriend. Meru usually has a gloomy appearance and talks in a despairing manner, though she does not impose her feelings onto others. After being bullied, she came to the conclusion that the world is irredeemable after researching various types of misfortune. Meru also conversely loves fairy tales and is inspired to become an author after witnessing the pure joy of happiness from children reading these novels. It is revealed that she eventually publishes several books.
