Leandro Manzueta (1824 – November 12, 1873) was a Dominican activist. He was the brother of landowner and soldier Eusebio Manzueta.[1]
Life
editHe participated in the Dominican Restoration War and was active in all stages and cantons of his region. For his war merits he was promoted to colonel, and after the end of the conflict, he was constantly at the side of his brother, Eusebio, without being stopped by the calculations of his personal wealth.[2]
In the Six Years' War, he went to Manigua with his brother and they lived up in the mountains of East until his betrayal was sold for a false ally that became a paid agent of the government. They were captured in the mountains of Masabá, tried and convicted to capital punishment by the prejudiced military courts of the government. Leandro was a year old younger than Eusebio and, as well as they walked through the national struggle in fraternal union, they continued together in posterity, in the glorious seat of the martyrs, when they fell together before the wall on November 12, 1873.[2]
