Kaala Maati is a 1958 Indian Bengali-language action drama film co-written and directed by Tapan Sinha.[1] Based on a novel by Ramapada Chowdhury,[2] the film was produced by Tas Films. It stars an ensemble casting of Arundhati Devi, Asit Baran, Bhanu Bandyopadhyay, Anil Chatterjee, Anup Kumar, Jahor Roy and Dilip Roy in the leads.[3] The soundtrack and background score was composed by Ravi Shankar. It was the first Indian film on the life of natives in coalmine area, also plotting the political situation regarding these areas in West Bengal during the 1940s.[4]
