Jones was known for his songs that dissed rival gang members, dead and alive. Tracks like “When I See You Remix” and the remix of SpotemGottem’s “Beat Box” with friend and fellow rapper CoJack are the most notable. He would often taunt rival Jacksonville rapper Yungeen Ace by mentioning the 2018 quadruple shooting in which Ace was the only survivor on numerous tracks.

Early Life

edit

Charles Jones II was born on June 21, 1998. Little is known about Foolio’s upbringing, except that he would get heavily involved in street life during his teen years.

At some point, Jones joined the “KTA” (initialism for Kill Them All) gang in Jacksonville, Florida. KTA had beef with another gang in the same city, “ATK” (initialism for Ace’s Top Killers). Tensions had not risen until the murder of Foolio’s cousin Zion Brown in 2017.[5] This would start a years-long deadly gang war in Jacksonville

Career

edit

2016-2018: Early projects, career beginnings

edit

Foolio would release his first project, “Who I Am” in 2017. The project features 12 songs and features from other smaller rappers. Over a year later, he would release a second project, “Industry Invasion”, which features 16 tracks and more features from smaller rappers.

In 2018, he collaborated with well known producer Zaytoven for their mixtape “6toven”.

2019-2021: Feuds, Shootings, rise to mainstream

edit

In February 2019, Foolio lost his close friend and fellow KTA member who he called his “little brother”, Adrian Gainer, who went by the moniker “Bibby”. Bibby is mentioned in the song “Who I Smoke” by [Yungeen Ace]] Spinabenz, Whoppa wit da Choppa, and FastmoneyGoon.

In 2019, Foolio was involved in an incident with rapper NBA YoungBoy. An internet hacker leaked unreleased YoungBoy tracks with the term “foolio” in them. Foolio was unsure if it was a diss, or if “foolio” is Louisiana slang with a different meaning. This incident would lead to Foolio coming to the hotel that YoungBoy was staying at to try and talk about the situation. Foolio spoke about the incident on a DJ Vlad interview in 2021.[6]

Foolio’s 2020 single “Play With Me” gained TikTok success, with over 200,000 videos under the TikTok sound.[7]

Foolio was shot twice within the span of just over a year. In July 2020, he was shot in Houston, Texas and survived. On November 8, 2021 he was shot after getting out of his car and used a registered weapon in self defense.[8]

Also in 2021, Foolio released a slew of diss tracks towards Yungeen Ace and dead members of rival gang “ATK”, with the most notable being “List of Dead Opps”, ”BeatBox Remix/Bibby Flow”(featuring rapper and fellow KTA member CoJack), ”When I See You”, and “Back in Blood” being the most notable. Most of Foolio’s 2021 diss tracks are remixes of popular songs. In “When I See You”, Foolio talks about the murder of a rival gang member, “23” who was killed in a quadruple shooting in 2018 while celebrating his birthday[9] The song contains samples from Fantasia’s “When I See U”. He also released a mixtape, “Confidential Thoughts” with hit single “I Hate You I Love You” that year.

2022-2024: Final Years, 2023 shooting

edit

On July 15, 2022, Foolio released an album titled “Life Of Me”.

On October 7, 2023, Foolio was ambushed and shot in the foot while driving to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Foolio was badly wounded and unable to walk for a period of time.[11]

Foolio released his last projects, two albums, “Final Destination” in 2023 and “Resurrection” in 2024.

Death

edit

In the early hours of June 23, 2024, Foolio was shot and killed at a Holiday Inn hotel while celebrating his birthday. He was trying to book a room after being asked to leave an Airbnb. At the hotel, Foolio and 3 others were ambushed, with everyone surviving but Foolio.[12][13]
