John Alston (1810–1875) is included in the famous photographic montage published by Thomas Foster Chuck in 1872 entitled "The Explorers and Early Colonists of Victoria". He is number 363 in the montage and is listed as having arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1840.

Alston was born in 1810 in Scotland. His father was John Alston and his mother was Margaret Scott.[1] He came to Victoria in 1840 and in the same year married Mary Hervey.[2] The couple later moved to Albury. He returned to Scotland and in 1875 he died in Glasgow.[3]
