Covington departed from JamisonParker due to contrasting creative views and communication difficulties. He dissolved E for Explosion in order to pursue other musical styles. His solo work began with the debut EP, Serenading Ghosts, which is the first volume in an ongoing series of releases. Covington's sound is often described as "indie pop," drawing comparisons to early Dashboard Confessional, Copeland, William Fitzsimmons, and Elliott Smith.

In addition to his solo work, Covington has ventured into composing, contributing music to various shows on networks such as MTV, ABC Family, Bravo, and CMT over the past two years. On May 13, 2016, Covington announced a collaboration with Randy Strohmeyer, formerly of the band Finch, to form a new band called Haunted Houses.
