In Her Place (2024 film)

In Her Place (Spanish: El lugar de la otra) is an upcoming Chilean historical crime drama film directed by Maite Alberdi and starring Elisa Zulueta and Francisca Lewin. Based on the true story of writer María Carolina Geel, who in 1955 killed her lover at the Crillón Hotel, the film is a reinterpretation of a story in the book Las homicidas by Alia Trabucco Zerán.[2]

The film will be screen in competition at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival on 23 September 2024.[3] It was selected as the Chilean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards.[4]

Premise

Famous writer María Carolina Geel kills her lover and is put on trial for murder. Mercedes, the paralegal for the trial judge, becomes obsessed with the case as she learns about Geel's life, coming to question her beliefs about women in society.[2]

In Her Place was filmed in Chile with cinematography by Sergio Armstrong. The film was produced by Fabula, while Mariane Hartard, Sergio Karmy, Cristián Donoso served as executive producers.[2]

Release

In Her Place will premiere on 23 September 2024 at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival.[3][1] It will also have a limited theatrical release in select Chilean cinemas in September 2024.[1] The film will become available on Netflix on 11 October 2024.[2]
