Hudson's Bay Rewards (known as HBC Rewards before February 2013) is a loyalty program where customers earn points for purchases at Hudson's Bay stores and thebay.com in Canada. [1][2][3]

Every 1000 points earned can be redeemed as $5 towards a purchase. Points can also be donated, gifted, or converted to RBC Avion points.

History edit

1980s and 1990s: Club Z and Air Miles edit

The rewards program was first introduced by Zellers in 1986. It was known as Club Z and awarded points to customers. Starting in the 1990s, The Bay offered Air Miles reward miles to their customers as a rewards program.

2000s: HBC Rewards launched edit

In an effort to offer more choices to customers at both Zellers and the Bay, and with the opening of its Home Outfitters chain, the HBC Rewards program was introduced in April 2001. Club Z points were automatically converted to the same amount in HBC Rewards points.

2010s: Zellers closure and Hudson's Bay Rewards rebranding edit

In 2012 and 2013, all but three Zellers locations across Canada shuttered, to be replaced by Target, Walmart or other retailers. Points could still be earned at Zellers during the stores' liquidations, and the HBC stated that its Rewards program would continue to exist at the Bay and Home Outfitters.

In 2013, HBC relaunched HBC rewards under a new name, Hudson's Bay Rewards. The program has three tiers based on annual spend at Hudson's Bay and thebay.com.[1][3]

Hudson's Bay points could be converted to Air Miles and vice-versa.

Purchases made with a customer's HBC Credit Card or Mastercard doubled the points earned.

2020s: Hudson's Bay Rewards app and program re-launch edit

In 2021, the new Neo Financial HB Mastercard kept the same double-point bonus.[4] In 2022, Hudson's Bay Rewards ended their point-conversion partnership with Air Miles.[5]

in 2023, an app was released that coincided with a relaunch of the Rewards program.[6] The app and website now included personalized offers and point bonuses for users.[7][8]

Members can link their Rewards account with their Petro-Canada Points account and SPC memberships to earn more points. Members can donate the dollar value of their points to the non-profit Hudson’s Bay Foundation or gift them to another member.[1]
