Hold Your Breath is an upcoming American psychological horror-thriller film directed by Karrie Crouse and Will Joines, and written by Crouse. It stars Sarah Paulson, Annaleigh Ashford, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Hold Your Breath is set to premiere in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2024, followed by a streaming release as a Hulu original film on October 3, 2024, by Searchlight Pictures.[1]
Premise
editIn 1930s Oklahoma, a young mother haunted by the past becomes convinced that a mysterious presence in dust storms is threatening her family and takes extraordinary measures to protect them.

editOn June 22, 2020, Karrie Crouse and Will Joines were set to co-direct Dust, a psychological horror-thriller Crouse wrote in the Sundance Institute Writer's Lab, with Alix Madigan and Lucas Joaquin producing. The film was to be sold at the Cannes Film Festival.[2] On October 29, 2020, Searchlight Pictures acquired the film.[3]
On June 22, 2020, Claire Foy was cast as the lead.[2] In July 2022, Sarah Paulson was cast, replacing Foy, who had to drop out due to scheduling issues.[4][5] By August 2022, Annaleigh Ashford and Ebon Moss-Bachrach joined the cast.[6][7] By September 1, 2022, Bill Heck and Amiah Miller joined the cast.[8]
Principal photography commenced by August 5, 2022, in New Mexico. The film employed approximately 152 New Mexico crew members and 153 local background talent. Locations include Stanley, Santa Fe, and Gallisteo.[9] By April 2024, the film was retitled Hold Your Breath.[10]
Release
editHold Your Breath is scheduled to premiere as part of the Special Presentations lineup at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2024 and will subsequently be released by Searchlight Pictures as a Hulu original film in the United States on October 3, 2024.[1][4][11][12]
