Hideomi Koinuma (born October 26, 1941, in Tokyo, Japan) is a distinguished scientist known for his contributions to the fields of materials science and engineering.[1]

Education

Hideomi Koinuma completed his Bachelor of Science in 1965, Master of Science in 1967, and Doctor of Philosophy in 1970, all from the University of Tokyo.

Career and Research

Koinuma began his postdoctoral research at the University of Kansas from 1970 to 1972. He returned to Japan, where he served as a research associate at the University of Tokyo from 1972 to 1979. Later he became an assistant professor (1979–1981) and an associate professor (1981–1987).

In 1987, Koinuma joined the Tokyo Institute of Technology as a professor of materials chemistry. He served as the director of the Ceramics Research Center from 1994 to 1996. Since 1998, he has been a guest researcher at the National Institute for Materials Science.[2][3]

Koinuma is married to Reiko Ueda, with whom he has three children: Miyuki, Makiko, and Yuji.[9]
