Description
editThe species is a tree that grows 15–20 meters tall with young branches and tomentose leaves.[1]
Taxonomy
editHarungana montana was first described by botanist Marie-Louise Spirlet in 1959. It is one of two species in the genus Harungana, with the other one being Harungana madagascariensis.[2] Sometimes the genus is considered monotypic, with only H. madagascariensis being accepted.[3]
Distribution, habitat, and ecology
editHarungana montana is a pioneer species,[4] and can be found in rainforests at altitudes of 2000–3000 meters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.[1] It is endemic to the Albertine Rift montane forests.[5]
