Announcement

edit

The Ghoul sniper rifle was unveiled during the 2014 Gaza war on the 28th day of the Battle.[1] The Qassam Brigades stated that the rifle was named "Ghoul" in honor of the martyr Adnan al-Ghoul, one of the most prominent engineers of the Al-Qassam Brigades, who was assassinated by the Israeli army in 2004. They mentioned that the rifle had been used for sniping operations since the beginning of the 2014 Gaza war.[2]

History

edit

The rifle was named after the martyr Adnan al-Ghoul, one of the leaders of the Al-Qassam Brigades, who led the military manufacturing unit in Al-Qassam,[3] who was martyred in action on the 21st of october 2004. He is the engineer who also designed the Al-Yassin RPG

Al-Ghoul was first introduced in the 2014 Gaza War,[4] also known as Operation Protective Edge (Hebrew: מִבְצָע צוּק אֵיתָן, romanized: Miv'tza Tzuk Eitan, lit. 'Operation Strong Cliff'), and Battle of the Withered Grain (Arabic: معركة العصف المائكول, romanized: Maʿrakat al-ʿAṣf al-Maʾkūl), where the sniper was used for Ambushes and attacks.though the sniper was heavily popularized during the Israel-Hamas war, as Hamas and its military wing the EQB (Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades) continue to publish live footage of militants carrying out operations against the IDF with high accuracy[5]
