Gaya (federal constituency)

Gaya was a federal constituency in Sabah, Malaysia, that was represented in the Dewan Rakyat from 1974 to 2004.

The federal constituency was created in the 1974 redistribution and was mandated to return a single member to the Dewan Rakyat under the first past the post voting system.

Malaysian general by-election, 12 October 2002
The by-election was called due to the disqualification of incumbent, Yong Teck Lee after being found guilty of an illegal billboard.

Yong Teck Lee was originally elected to serve in this constituency. Yong disqualified as Gaya MP and Likas assemblymen since September 2002 due to found guilty of illegal billboard according to the Election Offences Act 1954. Liew was elected to Parliament in the Gaya by-election, 2002.
