Summary

Description
English: Audio recording of a steam engine made by Fenton, Murray and Wood of Holbeck, Leeds, around 1805, and said to be the third-oldest working steam engine in the world. Used by John Bradley & Co of Stourbridge from 1805-1931, and from 1931-1961 by N Hingkey & Sons of Netherton. Now in Thinktank, Birmingham. We hear engine started from cold. First, steam is allowed through the cylinders, their drain cocks open, to warm them. The flywheel is rotated by hand, to set the engine in motion, and the recording ends with the engine ticking over at low speed, with one "clunk" per revolution.
