Starting a section to discuss notability, per Wikipedia:Teahouse#Replacing a redirect. I don’t think he meets WP:NPOLITICIAN since he holds a routine mayoral position and isn’t known for anything out of the ordinary as mayor. The question then is does he otherwise meet WP:GNG? Hi @Timtempleton:, thank you for your time and input. I appreciate the opportunity to make my case. I would argue he does meet the WP:GNG. He has had significant coverage through reliable, secondary sources independent of him. The most prominent of these sources are NorthJersey, InsiderNJ, DominicanToday, abc7, Univision, and De Extremo a Extremo, among others, all of which are verifiable and undergo scrutiny. He has been recognized by Governor Murphy through the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission and has even made history in Passaic. These sources are not published by him, making them independent of him. They also meet the significant coverage criteria as the articles address the topic, which is him, directly and in detail. Please let me know if you'd like me to expand on any of these points. @LMPAJ: I went through all the above sources and don't see a single profile of him. All the sources (that I can easily read) are about him getting elected and doing routine things as mayor. Because of this, the sourcing doesn't show how he meets WP:GNG so you're back to having to make the case that the mayor of a medium sized American town is inherently notable. Per WP:NPOLITICIAN, "Mayors of cities of at least regional prominence have usually survived AFD, although the article should say more than just "Jane Doe is the mayor of Cityville". Mayors of smaller towns, however, are generally deemed not notable just for being mayors, although they may be notable for other reasons in addition to their mayoralty (e.g. having previously held a more notable office). This criterion has not generally been as restrictive as the criterion for city councillors." As of the last census, Passiac was reported to have about 70,000 people, not quite mid-sized. I wanted to make this case: Despite its smaller size, Passaic is demographically significant. It stands out as one of the most densely populated cities in the United States for cities with over 50,000 residents, with more than 22,000 people per square mile. Also, Passaic County holds the largest Hispanic/Latino population in New Jersey, with 42.7% of New Jersey's Latinos residing there. Within this context, Passaic itself has an overwhelmingly Hispanic/Latino majority, at 74.1% of its population - higher than any other municipality in the county and reflective of a vital demographic in the U.S., where approximately one in five Americans is of Hispanic/Latino heritage.
Mayor Lora's role and initiatives should be viewed in this context. As an American-Dominican leader of a city with such a significant Hispanic/Latino population, his mayoralty carries an added dimension of cultural and community representation as his policies address the unique challenges and opportunities of this densely populated and culturally rich urban environment. This perspective emphasizes his relevance, both regionally and in the wider narrative of American cities with significant Hispanic/Latino populations. He won reelection in 2021 with 88% of votes cast, making him the most voted Mayor in Passaic history. And based on the aforementioned percentage, Latinos are the ones voting!
