The Ziranma (simplified Chinese: 自然码; traditional Chinese: 自然碼; pinyin: zì rán mǎ; lit. 'natural code' input method is a Chinese input method, originally designed by Zhou Zhinong (simplified Chinese: 周志农; traditional Chinese: 周志農; pinyin: zhōu zhì nóng) in the 1980s with continuous minor upgrades until 2009.

How it works edit

Ziranma makes use of both phonetic and shape information of Chinese characters. The phonetic part, Ziranma shuangpin (simplified Chinese: 自然码双拼; traditional Chinese: 自然碼雙拼; pinyin: zì rán mǎ shuāng pīn; lit. 'natural code double pinyin'), is a condensed form of toneless pronunciation of a character using only two latters. The shape part, Ziranma shape code (simplified Chinese: 自然码形码; traditional Chinese: 自然碼形碼; pinyin: zì rán mǎ xíng mǎ; lit. 'natural code shape code'), describes the shape of a character in also two letters. Each character is encoded as four letters in total.
