Whole Education is a network of schools, trusts, and organisations working "so all children and young people develop the skills, qualities, and knowledge required for life, learning, and work".[1].

History edit

Whole Education was established in 2010 as a collaborative effort led by the RSA that included Oxfam, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Innovation Unit, Young Foundation, UK Youth and ASDAN[2].

Philosophy edit

The philosophy of Whole Education is to emphasize greater curriculum breadth and depth. The approach seeks to develop life skills, resilience, and personal qualities in young people[3]. Sir John Dunford, the first Chair of Whole Education, advocated for the adoption of teaching strategies that include Metacognition and Social–emotional learning[4].

Impact and Reception edit

Whole Education's approach has gained attention both in the UK, having been acknowledged by the UK Parliament[5] and internationally by The OECD[6].
