Washington Monument and Mount Vernon Place, in Baltimore, Maryland is a Baltimore City Landmark. It is defined as the Washington Monument (located at 39°17′51″N 76°36′56″W / 39.297541°N 76.615679°W) and the four parks which radiate out from it. The East Mount Vernon park and the West Mount Vernon park are between the north-south streets named Mount Vernon Place (alternatively it can be said that Mount Vernon Place divides to go along the north and south of these parks); the North Washington Place park and the South Washington Place park are between the divided north-south streets named Washington Place. It is the centerpiece of the Mount Vernon, Baltimore neighborhood, of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Historic District, and of the Mount Vernon Place Historic District (listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1971).[1]
In Baltimore's list of its landmarks, Washington Monument and Mount Vernon Place is number 30, and its location is given as "Charles Street at Mount Vernon Place" (Charles Street is the north-south street running from much further south to much further north, along Washington Place in this immediate area). It was designated a Baltimore City Landmark on October 14, 1975, by Baltimore ordinance 75-1001.[2]
