Vurse (app) edit

Vurse is short-form video hosting service owned by Vurse Information Technology in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was created in 2022 and launched in India in October 2023[1][2] . Vurse has garnered 110,000 downloads in India as of November 2023[3][4]. Vurse's biggest competitor in social media is Tiktok which has been banned in India, giving way for Vurse to enter the region without it's biggest competitor present.

History edit

Vurse was founded by Bangladeshi tech entrepreneur Shadman Sakib in 2022[5] in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Vurse was created to rival social media apps Tiktok, Instagram and Snapchat and other the short-video platforms.

In October 2023, Vurse launched it's Beta app in India[6] using influencer marketing to promote the app to an Indian audience, competing with local short-video platforms Chingari, Moj and Josh.

Features edit

Vurse is available in English and allows users to upload and share short-form videos up to 60 seconds. Within the video section of Vurse, users can explore various categories, including viral, trending, dance, food, beauty and others. Similar to platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, Vurse employs a curated video feed based on individual app behavior using a recommendation system. The app also hosts numerous daily, weekly, and monthly social media challenges.

Vurse markets itself as a "hyper-interactive"[7] short-video platform, providing features that allow users to interact with each other. The features are the following:

1. VS Challenge edit

A split-screen duel where two participating users engage in a 24-hour challenge, with viewers voting to determine the winner.

2. Guessing Challenge edit

A trivia style feature where users' videos pause, prompting viewers to choose the correct answer from a list of 3 options.

Partnerships edit

In June 2022, Sony Music India and Vurse signed a music licensing deal, wherein Vurse acquired Sony Music India's local catalogue to it's music library with 1,000 songs allowing users to create User Generated Content using Sony Music India's music in 30 second clips.
