Volkart Foundation refers to Volkart Stiftung headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland, as well as the Volkart Foundation Indian Trust headquartered in Mumbai, India. Both are nonprofit organizations going back to Volkart Brothers, a global merchant concern.

Switzerland edit

Volkart Foundation (German: Volkart Stiftung) was founded on 1 February 1952 in Winterthur, Switzerland to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Volkart Brothers. It is a founding member of SwissFoundations.[1]

Its primary funding commitments are in the fields of documentary film, media, social sector and ecology. In 2022, Volkart has supported and funded 62 projects with a volume of roughly CHF 3 million ($3.3m).[2]

The foundation is being chaired by Marc Reinhart (great-great-nephew of Oskar Reinhart) and consists of two additional members, Daniela Bosshardt and Alexander Barkawi.

The Volkart Foundation Indian Trust is a public charitable trust registered with the charity commissioner in Mumbai. Established in 1952 by brothers Werner Reinhart, Peter Reinhart, Balthasar Reinhart and George Reinhart in lieu of the Indian merchant activities of Volkart Brothers. The Foundation started operating in 1953, in 1975 they added Indian nationals to the board of trustees.[3] Funding activities are primarily in the following sectors;

  • Education
  • Health and Medical
  • Community Development

Members of the board of trustee include Yezdi Hirij Malegam (chair), Hoshang Noshirwan Sinor (trustee) and Sarosh Naval Batliwalla (trustee).[4]
