Virtual Radar Server (VRS) is an open source, cross-platform web server based on the .NET framework that plots aircraft positions from internet or serial-connected ADS-B receivers.[1][2][3]
Usage edit
VRS can be run on Windows using the Microsoft-provided .NET runtime, or on Linux or MacOS using Mono.[4] VRS can receive data via an internet or serial connection in a variety of formats, allowing it to interact with many ADS-B receivers and decoders. This includes most software-defined radio ADS-B decoders, such as ADSB#,[5] PingUSB,[6] RTL1090,[7] and dump1090.[8]
It also supports flight simulators, namely X-Plane, Flight Simulator X, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.[9] Plugins for it can be developed for it using Visual Studio.[10]
Data sources edit
VRS uses the OpenStreetMap or Google Maps APIs for base map data and PlaneBase for aircraft lookup.[11] Other standing data pertaining to aircraft, routes, airlines, and airports is collected and maintained via email contact, Github issues, or its standing data maintenance page.[12]
