Vesa Velimirović (Serbian Cyrillic: Веса Велимировић; Ljubinić, 1760 - after 1804) was a knez and one of the first members of the Governing State Council (Praviteljstvujusceg sovejeta) at Valjevo during the First Serbian Uprising.[1][2][3]Matija Nenadović writes in his memoirs:"I once picked Vesa Velimirović [4] of Ljubinić for Valjevo, Koja Ivanović of Svileuva for Šabac, Stojan of Berčić for Rudnik, and Pavle Popović of Vranić for Belgrade...."
During the Turkish rule what was known as Rudo Polje came to be called Karanovac. Karanovac became an important settlement during the war between Austria and Turkey from 1718 to 1739. In 1719 and after, a border between the Austrian Empire and the Ottoman Empire was established along right bank of Great Morava. In the second year of the first in 1805, Karanovac was heavily damaged, leaving the Serbs to continue fighting, but thanks to makeshift cannons they were able to repel the Turkish forces. Memoirs of Matija Nenadović credits Vesa Velimirović for delivering a cannon from Karanovac to Brankovina that turned the tide in Serbian favour.[5]
