Early Life and Background

Vasanti Verma (born April 10, 1960) is a renowned Chhattisgarhi poetess known for her literary contributions and social activism. Raised in a Kabirpanthi rural environment in Pota, Sakti district of Chhattisgarh, India. Her work is deeply influenced by her social consciousness and cultural roots.

Literary Career

Vasanti Verma is a prolific writer with a keen interest in social issues. Her poetry collections have garnered critical acclaim and recognition. Here are some of her notable works:

Mor Angna Ke Phool (2012): Considered the first published collection of Chhattisgarhi poetry with commentary, this collection established Verma as a pioneer in the field. The collection was reviewed by the renowned grammarian Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma.

Mitaneen (2013): She became the first poetess from Chhattisgarh to be included in the Legal Literacy Campaign organized by the State Legal Services Authority, Chhattisgarh. This collection, published by the authority and distributed free of cost, aimed to raise legal awareness among the masses.

Mauri Mor Ama Ke Dara (2015): This collection, Vasanti Verma's third with commentary by Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma, further solidified her position as a leading voice in Chhattisgarhi literature.

Her poems have also been broadcast on All India Radio stations across Chhattisgarh, reaching a wide audience and promoting Chhattisgarhi language and culture.

Vasanti Verma married into a prominent political family in 1981. Her spouse, Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma, is a grammarian and a renowned agricultural scientist from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur. The couple has two children:

Bhavna Verma, a Gold Medalist in MCA from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya , Central University, Bilaspur in 2006.
Rahul Verma, a Gold Medalist in M.Com from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Central University, Bilaspur in 2012.
