"Turning Sounds" is an aperiodic music festival (referred to as a 'Meeting') and event series, established in 2003 and organized or co-organized by the "Turning Sounds" Society since 2004 and curated or co-curated by Antoni Beksiak. The main initial premise, as conceived by Andreas Stadler, the director of Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw, the initiator of the event, was to arrange an international crossover forum (as in the name of the institution) for contemporary electronic music creation, involving conference, workshops and performances.[1]

Robin Minard Silent Music edit

Foyer of of Łódź Philharmonic, 2008/9 within contem.ucha contemporary music series.[19][20]

It consists of hundreds of tiny speakers, which "bleed" murmurs and noises.

- wrote Jędrzej Słodkowski of Gazeta Wyborcza about the sound installation. The vernissage on December 16, 2008 was tied with a performance of pieces by composers associated with Academy of Music in Łódź Computer Studio.[20]

Georg Nussbaumer Barcarolle, Łódź 2009[21][22] edit

[23][24][25]As an event of the Festiwal Dialogu Czterech Kultur.

(...) Six pianos (...) eavesdrop on the life of the city and (...) transfer what they hear to the audio room of the Philharmonic (...) and the program will include the occasional artistic intervention on the abandoned pianos. In creating the documentation of the city’s soundtrack, the composer has invited artists to take part, and also – on the ‘open mic’ premise – all those who would like to express themselves in front of the pianos. [Antoni Beksiak][26]

"The natives wanted to express themselves a bit differently: within a few hours one of the pianos was destroyed, five were stolen. The transmission continues, because only in one case the thieves realized that there was a mobile phone in the piano picking up the sounds of the drinking spree."

- wrote Jan Klata of Tygodnik Powszechny.[26]

Collective work If you speak, it is no dream: edit

Sound installation conceived and curated by Antoni Beksiak and Lea Mauas and Diego Rotman of Sala-Manca, co-produced by Sala-Manca. Soundtracks by XV Parówek, 17 Migs of Spring, Eran Sachs and Wolfram. The four artists processed recordings of Hebrew words taken from a language textbook uttered by 28 foreign workers at the central bus station in Tel Aviv.

Beksiak originally had in mind a focus on the revival of the ancient Hebrew language by immigrants who arrived in Israel from all corners of the world, each bringing his or her native language to the way they expressed themselves in Hebrew. Sala-Manca’s Mauas and Rotman extended this idea to reflect the linguistic and social context of contemporary Israel and in particular Tel Aviv, where many foreign workers and refugees live and work. People for whom Hebrew is a necessity rather than an ideology, foreign workers “are not considered part of Israeli culture,” says Mauas.

Collective work Fryderyk Chopin. Ciennik osobisty edit

English: ...Personal Gazebo or ...Personal Diary Bower. Sound installation by Antoni Beksiak (curator, concept), Anka Herbut (script), Natalia Kalita (actress), Aleksandra Karlińska (co-curator), Kuba Kowalski (director), Sławomir Kupczak (composition), Marek Szkoda (actor) et al.:

  • Warszawa, Warsaw University Library garden, August 8 - September 8, 2010[31][32]
  • Istanbul, ITU MIAM courtyard, as part of the "Soundscapes from Poland" event, May 6 - June 6, 2014, with subtitles translated by Hakan Kocygit [33]

The creators utilized snippets from the correspondence with lovers and friends. (...) Sławomir Kupczak wrote electroacoustic pieces inspired by nocturnes, polonaises, rondos. He says: The music distances itself from Chopin's thought, sometimes emphasizes it, and in some pieces contrasts with it.
