Most court hearings in England and Wales are recorded and an application can be made to obtain a transcript. The process to do this is to file a EX107 application[1]☃☃.
The external transcription company then contacts the court to obtain the recording, and then listens to this and creates a MS Word Document with the words spoken. The document is then sent to the Judge who presided over the hearing, the judge then 'approves' the transcript by which the judge is allowed to make as many or little changes as they wish to make and then the approved transcript is sent to the applicant.
If the applicant is not able to afford a transcript then a EX105 needs to be filed, and if the applicant can demonstrate that they cannot pay for the transcript the court should approve the transcript at the tax payers expense.[2]
