The Trabant nT is a concept vehicle that was presented at the IAA in 2009. The abbreviation "nT" stands for "newTrabi".

History edit

The story began with the model car manufacturer Herpa. For the 50th birthday of the Trabant in 2007, it was decided to develop a model of a new Trabant at 1:10 scale. This model was presented at the IAA in 2007 under the name “newTrabi”. During a survey at the trade fair, 94% of the 12,000 respondents were in favour of a new edition of the car in a modern form.

IndiKar Individual Bodywork GmbH from Wilkau-Haßlau then developed a concept vehicle together with designer Nils Poschwatta, which was presented at the IAA in 2009 under the name “Trabant nT”. However, the subsequent search for investors failed, so the vehicle was never mass-produced.

Technical Specifications edit

The Trabant nT is powered by a central asynchronous motor with an output of 47 kW. The motor draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery. The charging time is approx. 8 hours at 230 V and approx. 2 hours at 400 V. The range is a maximum of 160 km. In addition, the vehicle has a solar roof with an area of 1.8 m², which provides approx. 120 watts to support ventilation and other external consumers. The maximum speed is 130 km/h. The vehicle has 4+1 seats (one child seat in the middle at the back). The payload capacity is 400 kg.
