Tom B. Leamon (born on April 16, 1940, in Ossett, Yorkshire, United Kingdom) is an early researcher and practitioner in the field of Ergonomics, an educator and industrial engineer. He retired from the role of Vice-President and Director of the Liberty Mutual Research Center at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Group in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Leamon was previously an Industrial Engineer at Ilford Ltd. in England (1961-1962), then served as a Manager of Ergonomics at Pilkington Ltd., St. Helens, England (1964-1971). He was also a Director of a Masters program at the Cranfield Institute of Technology (1970-1975), and headed the Ergonomics Branch at the National Coal Board in the UK (1975-1980). In the United States, he became the Director of the graduate program in Occupational Safety at the University of Illinois, Chicago (1981-1982), and later held positions as Professor and Chairman at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb (1982-1987), including acting as Dean (1985-1986). He was also a Professor and Chairman of the Engineering Department at Texas Tech University, Lubbock (1987-1991).[citation needed]

Born on April 16, 1940, in Ossett, in the UK, he is the son of Harold and Dorothy (Wilde) Leamon and moved to the United States in 1980. He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Manchester (1961), a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Cranfield (1964), a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from the University of Aston, Birmingham (1970), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering, Production Management, from the Institute of Technology, Cranfield (1982).
Professional life edit
His contributions to the field are recognized through his roles as a trustee of the American Society of Safety Engineers, a fellow of the Institute of Production Engineers (receiving the Sir Ben Williams Silver Medal in 1969), and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (serving as chairman of industrial ergonomics from 1983-1985). He is also a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (serving as chairman of the ergonomics division from 1990-1991 and receiving a special citation for his contributions to ergonomics), and the American Society of Safety Engineers.

Leamon married Geraldine Bland on July 1, 1967, and together they have three children: Amanda Charlotte, Jonathan Barton, and Genevieve Emma.
