Timothé Makanzu (born January 5, 1999) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for SV La Fama in the Aruban Division di Honor. Makanzu is notably the first player in the RSEQ (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) to be named a CCAA All-Canadian three times and one of only three players in the country to achieve this feat.
Early Life
editTimothé Makanzu was born in Toronto, Ontario, and began his soccer career at a young age. He played for Moncton Codiac FC before joining Royal Sélect Beauport in 2011, where he developed his skills in their youth system. He was also part of the New Brunswick High Performance Academy and the U14 New Brunswick team.[1][2] Additionally, he was selected for the U15 Quebec team.[1]
College Career
editGarneau Élans
Makanzu’s college career began at Garneau Élans, where he played from 2016 to 2019. During his time at Garneau, he made 45 appearances and scored 25 goals.[3] He was named a CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) All-Canadian three times, making him the first player in the RSEQ to achieve this milestone and only the third in Canada to receive this honor.[4] This achievement solidified his position as one of the top collegiate players in the country.[5]
UQAM Citadins
In 2020, Makanzu transferred to the UQAM Citadins to continue his collegiate soccer career. At UQAM, he made 39 appearances and scored 10 goals between 2020 and 2023.[1] In 2023, Makanzu was named to the U Sports Second All-Canadian Team.[6]
Club Career
editDynamo de Québec
In 2018, Makanzu signed his first senior contract with Dynamo de Québec, a semi-professional club competing in the PLSQ (Première Ligue de Soccer du Québec). Over the course of two seasons, he made 9 appearances and scored 2 goals.[7]
SV La Fama
In 2024, Makanzu signed with SV La Fama, a club competing in Aruba's top-flight league, the Aruban Division di Honor. His move to SV La Fama marked his first international playing experience.
Playing Style
editTimothé Makanzu is known for his physicality, pace, and strong aerial presence. Standing at 1.85 meters, he excels in duels and can play both as a central striker. He is noted for his ability to hold up play, intercept the ball with sliding tackles, and lead through his work ethic and positive attitude.[1]
