Thomas Tison is a French yacht designer and naval architect recognized for his contributions to competitive sailing and yacht design. His architectural studio Thomas Tison Yacht Design & Engineering, was founded in 2017 in France.
Early life and education
editThomas Tison was born in La Rochelle, France.
Thomas Tison completed his studies at Southampton Solent University in yacht design, later in aerospade design at Cranfield University. Thomas Tison was recruited by Juan Kouyoumdjian, who at the time was designing the fastest Volvo 70s, and subsequently by the Italian team Mascalzone Latino for the 32nd America's Cup.[1] [2]
Career
editIn 2017, he creates his own studio for the design of custom and racing yachts.
Thomas Tison has been involved in multiple America's Cup campaigns, contributing to the design and engineering of high-performance racing yachts. His notable involvements include:
37th America's Cup: Tison is a key member of the British team INEOS Britannia, where he focuses on designing high-performance sail plans, hulls, and construction methods[3]
35th America's Cup: He worked with Artemis Racing, focusing on the structural design of rigid wing platforms and foils on foiling catamarans[4]
33rd America's Cup: Tison contributed to Team Origin’s hull design and the development of hull design analysis programs
In addition to his America's Cup work, Tison designed the Elida, a 15-meter custom racing yacht built for the Fastnet Race, with a new wood construction method.[5]
Innovations and Collaborations
Tison innovative approach to yacht design, often integrating the latest materials and technologies. One notable project is the EcoFoiler, developed in partnership with the Italian shipyard NLComp. This eco-friendly foiling yacht leverages Tison's America's Cup expertise[6] to push the boundaries of sustainable yacht design [7]
