Third Kind Games was founded by nine members of the former management team at Activision Studio FreeStyleGames: Graham Watson (CTO), Tim Dunn (CPO), Darren Bowen (COO), Rav Tharanee (CSO), Sylwester Zaluga (Technical Director), John Roxburgh (Art Director), Nathan Coppard (Design Director), Dan Hughes (Lead Programmer), and Mike Nimmo (Principal Programmer).
In 2022, following significant studio growth, Third Kind Games opened new remote-first studios in Poland and Spain.
The studio operates 50:50 between co-development projects and work on Third Kind Games’ IP which began in 2021. It has now left Area 51 – Third Kind Games' idea generation team – and is in development.
Third Kind Games is the Lead Developer of Blankos Block Party, a vibrant free-to-play open-world multiplayer game styled like a giant block party, with a focus on custom art and design.[1] Players can control and collect Blankos, which are digital vinyl toys brought to life. The game is built on the EOSIO blockchain. At worldwide launch on 28th September 2022, Blankos Block Party was the first web3 game to launch on the Epic Games Store platform.[2]
Third Kind Games’ first project was DRG Initiative, a showcase project for Amazon's Lumberyard engine for Slingshot Cartel. The subsequent project was for Amazon, working on Lumberyard engine support.
Third Kind Games also worked with Playground Games on Forza Horizon 4 and Fable on the custom internal engine, console optimisations and animation tooling.
