“The World Has Turned And Left Me Here” is a song by the American rock band Weezer from their album of the same name. The song was never released as a single. But is a classic among Weezer fans.

Background edit

Rivers has suggested that the song could possibly be connected to the song before it, called “No One Else”. While No One Else is about the “Obsessive jealous-asshole in me freaking out on my girlfriend” and “The World Has Turned And Left Me Here” is “The same asshole wondering why she’s gone”. Although No One Else had been recorded almost a year after The World Has Turned And Left Me Here. So that could just be coincidence.[citation needed]

Lyrics edit

The song talks about a relationship that has suddenly ended. While feeling left behind and realizing that the world has continued on without them. It speaks of the sadness they feel as they struggle to adapt to the changes that have been made and the emptiness they are now left with after the other person has left. Throughout the song the narrator speaks of the longing they have to have the other person back, from talking to the other person's wallet photo to desperately asking "[Do] you believe what I sing now?" in the outro.

Demos edit

3 years before the release of their self titled debut album, The Kitchen Tape was released, and the last track on the demo album was the second demo of the song.[1] The next year, they released Weezer’s Third Demo, the second track on the cassette was the last demo of the song.[2] The year before The Kitchen Tapes the band released Weezer’s First Demo. The last track on the record is the first demo of the song.[3]

Live performances edit

The song was a live staple of the tour to promote the album. Although the he song was dropped for the Pinkerton tour, it was brought back for the Memories tour.[4]

Cover versions edit

The song has been covered 6 times, by Christopher John, the band Punchline, Jenn Champion, The TM Collective, Eastwood[5] and Billy Cobb.[6]
