The Strike is an American band formed in Provo, Utah, currently based in Los Angeles, California.[1] Founded in 2012, the current lineup consists of vocalist Chris Crabb, drummer Jay Tibbitts, and keyboardist David Maemone. The band performs live with additional members on guitar, bass, and saxophone.[1][2] They are known for their live performances and touring.[3]

History

edit

The Strike has its roots in wedding bands, where vocalist Chris Crabb met keyboardist Jake Justice. The two began writing original music and formed "The Strike," whose original lineup featured nine or ten members, including a larger horn section with trombone, trumpet, and saxophone. The band's sound was initially a blend of funk and jazz, in addition to influences from big-band and swing.[4]

After its conception, the band changed its name to "We Are the Strike" for legal reasons. In 2014, they rebranded as "The Str!ke".[5] Since at least 2016, the band has operated simply as "The Strike", though "We Are the Strike" continues to be used for their social handles and website.[6]

In late 2014, Jake Justice left the band and moved to Los Angeles to pursue other musical goals.[7] Chris Crabb continued the band in Provo, refining the lineup to six members: himself on vocals, Brady Bills on guitar, Chase Baker on bass, Matt Millington on drums, Myles Lawrence on saxophone, and Marcus Anderson on trombone and keyboard.[3] In 2016, the band underwent a shift in musical direction, leading to the release of their first full-length album, "Faint of Heart," in 2017.[8][9]
