The Brotherhood commonly referred to as BroHo, is the name of the third floor of the male dorm Samuel Morris Hall (commonly called Sammy[1]) at Taylor University.[1]. Members of The Brotherhood are known for their rituals, shenanigans and secrecy, making sources hard to come by, except through word of mouth[2][3]. They are also well-known for their tight knit community and the brotherhood they share[4]. There is a video describing the history of The Brotherhood in great detail[5]. Originally The Brotherhood was in Swallow Robin Hall (commonly called just Swallow or Robin)[6] at Taylor University, but eventually made its way to the third floor of Samuel Morris Hall where it is today. Since Taylor University does not have fraternities and sororities or any Greek life, floor or wing culture takes its place[7]. Each of the floors is known for having their own distinct culture and traditions[8]. Men that live in Samuel Morris Hall are sometimes called "Sammy Boys", "Sammy Guys" or "Men of Morris"[9][8][10].

Leadership

The floor is led by The Triumvirate consisting of The Pope, The Snake and The Phubs[3][11]. The members are selected at towards the beginning of the school year if the previous person in that position has either graduated or left the floor[11]. They “serve as the figureheads on our floor, so we do stuff to lead the floor, there’s a lot of secret stuff but other things like helping with Jericho week and the Boxer run”[11].

The Pope

"Stands on a middle ground"[11] and mediates between other members of The Triumvirate[12]. The Pope "is responsible for making sure all of the traditions happen. He is also the 'atoner to campus,' asking for forgiveness for the sins of the Brotherhood. At the beginning of the year, letters were posted around campus with a forewarning and an apology for whatever the floor would do this year"[3].

The Snake

Described as "more reserved"[11]. Is known for giving loud speeches in the Hodson Dining Commons at Taylor University. The speech is initiated by something like this: "(pounding rhythmically on tables), The Snake! (pounding rhythmically on tables), The Snake! ay! Everybody loves The Snake! ay! Everybody loves The Snake! ay! Speech!", then everyone goes quiet and The Snake, who is standing on a table, gives his speech[11]. The position has been around since around 2012[11], making it much newer than other positions.

The Phubs

Also referred to as Phubs with a 'b' for the Phubs number they are currently on (11). The current Phubs can be called "Phubbbbbbbbbbbs" or "Phu11bs". They are described as "more irresponsible and chaotic"[11]. The Phubs is the oldest leadership role on The Brotherhood[13]. ''The word Phubs was originally Fubs and technically means 'a plump young person or child,' but it wasn't used in that context. The F became a Ph because it looked more 'regal.'"[13]. Phu11bs is currently one of the hosts of The BroHo Variety Hour[14][15]. Some people at Taylor University do not even know The Phubs' real name[13]. "The role of Phubs is to be the maker of mischief, King of Samuel Morris Hall and chief includer. The Phubs has a lot of flexibility in the role, as each Phubs is able to make the role what they want it to be"[3]. Previous Phubs said "it's kind of cool because everyone knows me, so it opens up a door for me to meet other people"[3].

Samuel Morris Hall has a long-lasting friendly rivalry with Wengatz Hall, the other all-male dorm at Taylor University[10][17].

Traditions

There is some debate over what is a Brotherhood tradition, versus a Samuel Morris Hall tradition. Some traditions started off as a Brotherhood tradition, but later had the other floors of Samuel Morris Hall get involved.

Call Outs[3] "One guy can call out another if they have 'beef,' or a lighthearted arguments, with one another. They will go behind the DC and wrestle. 'Call outs' usually occur during dinner"[3]. "Call Outs" can also result in someone jumping in the Samuel Morris Fountain.
Skipping The loop[3] "The men on the floor go to each of the women's dorms and sing. This is their way of introducing the freshman to campus and the time they announce the new roles"[3].
Sexuality and the Body Week[3] "They also bring in panels to learn more about topics or events such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day or Sexuality and the Body week"[3].
BroChurch[3] "Hear a message from someone around campus or a testimony from one of the guys on the floor"[3].
Wengatz Appreciation Day[3] Dress up as preppy country-club teens to make fun of residents of Wengatz Hall.

Media & Pop Culture

The Brotherhood has various productions, such as radio shows on WTUR which is Taylor University's student radio station. Some of which are recorded and then uploaded to Spotify.

The BroHo Variety Hour

The Brotherhood recently started a show called The BroHo Variety Hour[14][15]. Here The Phubs and another member of The Brotherhood discuss random topics (but mostly movies). They bring on a variety of members of The Brotherhood on as guests; so far, they have not had any non-Brotherhood guests[15].

Conspiracy Cabin

A cancelled show called Conspiracy Cabin also used to run, where various members of The Brotherhood discuss conspiracy theories a humorous manner[18].

Tales from the Theory-Plex

Recently, the host of Conspiracy Cabin has a new show called Tales from the Theory-Plex which is "A show covering the lore, theories, and debates of the mysterious Five Nights at Freddy’s storyline"[14].

Commercials

The Brotherhood has created commercials to promote their open houses and their floor in general, during various all-campus activities such as Air Band, My Gen and Nostalgia Night[19][20]
