Biography
editEarly Life and Musical Beginnings
Benjamin Smith, known professionally as Templé is musician, DJ and producer from Adelaide, Australia. Smith began his musical journey at the age of 12, playing drums and percussion[3]. His first band, a punk outfit named "Dead Set," recorded in a professional studio when he was just a pre-teen, sparking his lifelong passion for studio environments and recording technology.
Templé has been involved in various bands spanning multiple genres, including jazz, punk, psych rock, and techno. His last band fused a unique blend of techno sounds with traditional instruments. Over the years, Smith has not only honed his skills as a multi-instrumentalist but also as a DJ and record collector, amassing an impressive collection over 2 decades.
Career
editSolo Projects and Releases In 2020, Templé released his breakthrough EP on Black Riot. This collection of tracks, written over a decade, showcased his ability to blend various musical influences and genres. The EP includes notable tracks such as "The Woman with the Pink Lips," a nod to Laurent Garnier’s "The Man with the Red Face"[4]
Templé's subsequent releases, the "Love Machine EP," was issued by Prins Thomas's Internasjonal. This EP featured final engineering tweaks by Prins Thomas himself and combined deep house with nordic disco. The "Love Machine EP" is praised for its versatility, designed to be equally enjoyable for home listening, as it is functional for DJs.
May 2024 saw Templé's most recent releases called "Who You Are", which was self released through Smith's newly created imprint Templé Musiq. It features Quartz Pistol on vocals and a stunning remix by former label boss Prins Thomas[5].
