TTOS Linux is a debian derivative. During development, it started as a project based on LFS in 2002 but focus was shifted on an OEM distribution based on Debian stable as a core. TTOS Linux Version 1.0 PR1 was released in 2007, the final release of version 1 was based on a more updated release Debian 7 and released in 2016. The distribution came pre-installed on TTPC Systems computers. There were various custom software included in the in house repositories, however, the core of the OS used the official Debian repositories. This allowed TTPC Systems, the parent company behind the custom software to focus on it's software in it's own repositories that came pre-packaged with the OS.

After the version 1.0 release, development began on it's successor, TTOS Linux 1.1. This version includes an easy to use graphical installer that makes it more user friendly for anyone to download and install TTOS Linux on their PC. Some notable features include the ability to detect and install the correct NVIDIA GPU Drivers for certain cards, the ability to install Steam, Lutris, WPS Office, Google Chrome, and Animated Live Wallpaper right from a post install Welcome screen. The official release of TTOS Linux 1.1 was launched in January 2019 and is based on Debian 9/10 packages. With the new TTOS Linux 1.1 release, the distro maintainers have began porting their build system to be modular. TTOS Linux will become a platform where developers can create rapid deployments of custom respins by just creating a "template" file that defines the distro to be installed. A build module defined in the template takes care of creating the chroot while the build system packages it into an installable ISO. The system is also capable of setting up ISO's that have user's pre-configured and the system can automatically sync to most current backups of home folder if configured to do so.

The latest release, Version 1.2 is slated to be published at the end of 2023. This release features many improvements and overhauls of existing software as well as system optimizations that reduce bugs and installation errors. Some of the noticeable improvements include a complete re-write of TTOS Welcome (default onboarding utility), a new Internet Security suite, and a bundled game streaming server.
