Swisslog Healthcare is a global company offering transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals and health systems. Their integrated solutions include material transport systems (pneumatic tubing systems), as well as a line of pharmacy automation (medication management) solutions.[1] Swisslog Healthcare is headquartered in Colorado, United States, and Buchs, Switzerland. The company's mission statement reads "Swisslog Healthcare delivers medication management solutions that increase efficiency and enhance the patient experience in forward-thinking hospitals and healthcare systems."[2]
Swisslog Healthcare traces its roots back to Sprecher + Schuh AG, founded in the early 1900s in the Swiss town of Aarau. Initially, the company’s primary area of activity was energy distribution. Through the mid-1980s, Sprecher + Schuh shifted their focus to automation technology, and by 1994 was re-branded as Swisslog. Since 2018, Swisslog Healthcare has operated as an independent business, focusing specifically on healthcare automation. Its sister company, Swisslog (also known as Swisslog Logistics), focuses on warehouse logistics automation.
In 2014, Swisslog was acquired by KUKA AG, a German manufacturer of robotics and automation systems[3]. In early 2017, KUKA was in turn acquired by Midea.[4][5]
Swisslog Healthcare has historically been considered a leading innovator in pharmacy automation solutions.[6][7] Their pneumatic tubing systems have been installed in over 2,300 hospitals in North America.[8][9]
