Sumit Shrestha (born 30 January 2004) is a Nepalese international footballer, currently playing as a midfielder for Manang Marsyangdi Club in the Martyr's Memorial A-Division League and the Nepal national team.

Early life edit

Born in Pokhara, Sumit joined in the local Academy of Pokhara (Bhimkali Club) at the age of 11. During his time in Pokhara, Sumit participated in different football tournaments in Pokhara, and also played in the Aaha Rara Gold Cup in 2022.[1] and Waling Goldcup 2023 for Sahara Club. [2]

Club career edit

In 2022, Sumit joined Manang Marshyangdi Club and in his first 2023 Martyr's Memorial A-Division League season, he featured in 25 matches and started with a total playing time of 2401 minutes, Sumit registering 2 goals and 2 assists. [3] In 2023, He join Jhapa FC for Nepal Super League 2023. [4]

Nepal Futsal Team Career edit

Shrestha has been a regular for Nepal Futsal team since 2022. He made his international debut in futsal team for Nepal on 10 April 2022 in 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualificationan eventual 5–1 loss against the Uzbekistan.[5] During the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualification he played 3 matches and during the final match, Shrestha scored a goal against Afghanistan at the Gazprom Sports Complex, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. [6] On 10 September 2023, Shrestha was included in Nepal Futsal Team squad for 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualification. [7] He became the only Nepalese player to score the goal in 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualification round for Nepal scoring two goal against South Korea & Mongolia each though Nepal did not qualify for second round of 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualification.[8]

U-20 career edit

Shrestha included in the 2022 SAFF U-20 Championship for Nepal U-20 which was held in Bhubaneswar, India.[9] Shrestha also played at the AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers in Bahrain but this time they were unsuccessful to qualify.[10]

Senior career edit

He made his international debut for Nepal on 23 March 2023 coming on for Ayush Ghalan in the 89th minute in 2–0 win against the Laos in Prime Minister Three Nation Cup 2023 .[11]
