The Monument to Prince Henry the Navigator is located in Praça Portugal, adjacent to the embassies of Portugal and the United States, in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. Constructed in bronze and set upon a concrete pedestal, the monument is a tribute to the "father of Portuguese navigation," Henry, Duke of Viseu. It was created by the Portuguese artist Salvador Carvão d'Eça Barata Feyo.[1]

The monument is part of the architectural complex of the Embassy of Portugal in Brasília, which, besides the Chancellery building, also includes Praça Portugal.[2] It was inaugurated in November 1960, with the presence of Brazilian President Juscelino Kubitschek.[3] The Portuguese embassy building itself was only inaugurated in 1978, while Praça Portugal was reinaugurated in 1972.[4] In 2020, the government of the Federal District began revitalization works on the square, including the monument, which had been in a state of deterioration for several years.[5][6]
