St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery is a cemetery in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, located at 4901 North Clark Street. St. Boniface was established in 1863 to serve German Catholic congregants who preferred to be buried apart from the Celtic parishioners of the existing Calvary Cemetery in Evanston.[1] The cemetery is named for Saint Boniface, the martyred Benedictine monk who is venerated as the patron saint of Germania. Spanning thirty-six acres, the cemetery is bounded by Lawrence Avenue to the south, Clark Street to the west, and Ainslie Street to the north. Today, St. Boniface is one of forty-seven cemeteries administered by the Archdiocese of Chicago.[2]

Notable tombs and monuments edit

St. Boniface Cemetery hosts a monument to German-American soldiers who fought and died in the American Civil War.[3] Erected in 1887, it is the first such monument of its kind.[4]
