- Comment: Movies, Games and Tech may not be reliable, while Gamereactor is potentially unreliable. Better sources would be needed to declare it notable, and sourcing the gameplay would help too. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:14, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game, or simply (The Patrick Star Game) is a 2024 sandbox-adventure game developed by PHL Collective and published by Outright Games. It is based on the Nickelodeon television series, SpongeBob SquarePants. The game is the first SpongeBob video game, not to feature the titular character to be playable in any state.[2]
In the game, the player plays as Patrick Star, as he completes objectives set out by his friends, including SpongeBob, Sandy, Squidward, and various others.
The game was released on October 4, 2024[1], for the PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows and received mixed reviews from critics.
Gameplay
editThe Patrick Star Game is a sandbox-adventure game, where the player can go on the daily life of Patrick Star. Patrick can perform various actions, and interact with everything in Bikini Bottom. The main goal of the game is to collect enough sand dollars to get into the Fry Cook Colosseum, to compete in the Fry Cook Games against SpongeBob.[3][4]
To earn sand dollars, Patrick must complete various objectives set out by his friends, SpongeBob, Sandy, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Mrs. Puff, and Plankton. Such objectives include helping clean up certain areas of Bikini Bottom with a water blaster, or finding certain objects. When Patrick has completed a certain task, he is awarded with sand dollars.[2]
Patrick can get additional sand dollars by completing 'Feats'. 'Feats' are small tasks that can be done at any time in the game. Certain feats include performing a certain action, or doing a mini task, such as delivering food using a food truck. Collecting a certain amount of sand dollars unlocks different outfits for Patrick to wear, which are based on various episodes of the show.[3]
Reception
editThe game received mixed reviews according to review aggregator website, Metacritic. Carrie Lambertsan, of ScreenRant, gave the game a score of 6/10, but critizied the controls, stating, "Though the controls could be differcult for young children, due to the physics involved, 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game' is designed to be fun for everyone, and it would certainly be hard to be depressed while in this bright world."[5] Sam Hallahan, of TheGamer, said, "The Patrick Star Game is fun, and to see the original cast return for it is a wonderful thing."[2]
Ben Kerry, of Pure Xbox, gave the game a more mixed review of 50/100, and stated, "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game feels like another excuse to cash in on the SpongeBob name. The game doesn't do anything offensive, but it's so barebones that it doesn't even really feel like a full experience, particularly for seasoned gamers."[6] Sarah Thwaites, of IGN, gave the game a score of 5/10, stating that, "despite it's charm, lacks the heart to make a splash."[7]
