Sibylle Mottl-Link (born Sibylle Mottl; February 14th 1971)[citation needed]

Life and career edit

From 1990 to 1997 Sibylle Mottl-Link studied medicine at the Saarland University in Homburg/Saar (Germany), at the University of Vienna (Austria) and at the Medical University of Luebeck (Germany). After completing her doctorate.[1], she first worked in the clinic for pediatric and adolescent medicine at the Demmin district hospital.

She continued her medical career in the departments of cardiac surgery at the Karlsruhe Clinic and at the Heidelberg University Hospital. During her university career, she was particularly interested in the three-dimensional representation of the child's heart.[2][3]Concentrating on pediatric medicine she joined Mannheim University Clinic and then the Worms Clinic to work at the pediatric and adolescent medicine clinics, as well as in pediatric and adolescent public health services in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan area.

Since the publication of her first medical children's book Frau Doktor hat einen Vogel[4] (Mrs Doctor has a Bird) in 2011 Mottl-Link travels extensively - next to her ongoing work as a doctor - throughout Germany and Austria reading and performing for pre-school and school children. She explains medical knowledge using puppet comedy with the characters from her books. Preferably she performs in schools and libraries, thus providing health education for children in an age-appropriate and entertaining way.

Her picture book In meinem Körper ist was los (Something's Going on in My Body) (Illustrator: Frėderic Bertrand, Loewe Verlag 2016)[5] became a bestseller and was even translated into Chinese[6]. During the Corona pandemic, she provided child-friendly information about the Corona virus on YouTube and Twitch and published the picture book Keine Angst vor dem kleinen Piks (Don't be afraid of the little sting) also with the Loewe Verlag[7]

To offer adolescents a good way to deal with stress she published Körperliche Bedürfnisse (Physical Needs) 2017 under the pen name Dr. Heide Kraut.[8]

2023 she published her recent picture book Hier kommt die Körperpolizei! Wie sich mein Körper gegen Krankheiten wehrt. (Here comes the body police! How my body defends itself against diseases.)[9]

Mottl-Link lives in Heidelberg / Germany, is married and has two children.[citation needed]

Lectures and performances edit

With her hand puppets the birds CORA and catastrophe KARA, the intestinal bacterium COLI[10], a snake and many more[11], Sibylle Mottl-Link has made more than 500 appearances since 2011[12]. That's why the press already referred to her as "the doctor with the talking hand".[11][13]
